beetiger and I inspected the contract we have
for World Tree, and Padwolf does have right of
first refusal on A Marriage of Insects and the next
two more World Tree or similar things that we try to
publish. Probably unenforceable, but we did agree to
it so I’d feel bad trying to sleazle out of it.
So, I wrote to Padwolf, and told them the situation. They
said, “Go ahead, send it to big publishers. If that doesn’t
work, try us.”
Which is a pretty good arrangement, I think. It’ll nearly

have my friendly small press as a backup.
So, this next poll is serious and selfish and a bit rude.
I’d like to find a few readers who can give me a final round
of comments. I’m not offering you the chance to read
it; I’m asking you to volunteer to read it. I will pick a
few readers, based on, I dunno, Tarot cards or alphabetic
order of the third letter of your lj-username or something.
Doing this is a significant favor for me, sort of like
helping me move heavy furniture around my house. I will
appreciate it accordingly … but, if you’ve got the
literary equivalent of a bad back or a sick baby, please
don’t volunteer. I’d rather get a “Regretfully no” now than a
“Yes” and an apology for not doing it later on, even from my
Do you volunteer to read the first few chapters (the part that I am going to send to publishers and agents) and give me comments on it before the weekend? (Understanding that I will pick zero or more people who say Yes, with no insult intended to the ones I don't pick.)
Do you volunteer to read the whole thing, and get me comments on it, within a few weeks? (Understanding that I will pick zero or more people who say Yes, with no insult intended to the ones I don't pick.)
